生產運籌(production logistics)屬於供應鏈運籌的一部分。基於專業分工及部門劃分的原理，尚未進入完全整合的運籌管理階段之前，運籌實務仍然將供應鏈切成三段：供應運籌、生產運籌與流通運籌。就生產運籌而言，主要沿襲傳統生產管理的功能，強化生產（production）與inbound logistics、outbound logistics之間的連接，力求簡化、快速與成本降低的效果。 所謂生產，主要意涵是The manufacturing of goods and/or the rendering of services。管理上非常重視產量(the total quantity of goods (to be) manufactured and/or services to be rendered in a particular period of time and expressed in quantitative or financial terms)與交期。.目前，已經有許多公司設立生產運籌部，這也是以製造為主的公司發展供應鏈管理之前的替代做法之ㄧ。 參考Russell (2000)的運籌定義，生產運籌可以定義為： The science of managing, engineering, and technical activities concerned with production capacity, schedule, and delivery to support manufacturing objectives, plans, and operations.
